The Mystery of the Hexagon on Holes 5 & 8

I am sure most of you have noticed the enormous amount of hexagon plugs on five and eight green.  I have been asked many times why this exists and why they are necessary.  We have an enemy on these two greens…the great blue heron.  While many may consider a great blue heron a wonderful sight to see while on the course, this foul flying irritant is the reason for so many hex plugs on these two greens.  The heron spreads his excrement and, as a result, we must continually plug these areas.  The great blue heron is a protected species in our area, and we have few actions that can be taken to rid the course of this creature.
